Rambert Dance school, London
This session explored Uproar, a solo dance performance and installation inspired by Latin American street protests, particularly the 2022-2023 Peruvian outbreak, and ancestral movements like Taki Onqoy.
Participants created collective soundscapes using shakers made from Limaq Beans—a nod to Peruvian traditions—and “cacerolazos,” the rhythmic banging of pots and pans, iconic in Latin American protests. Guided by prompts like “What makes you feel oppressed?” and “What gives you hope?” dancers developed individual and collective movement sequences, embodying the spirit of resistance and solidarity.
The session featured live music by Peruvian violinist Camila Alva, weaving traditional and experimental sounds into this dynamic exploration of protest and hope.
